Weekly Book Round Up #13

08 November 2013

If you haven't checked out Hyperbole and a Half yet, then you need to. It's a blog written by Allie Brosh and features brilliantly simplistic drawings and hilarious insights into her life, and how she deals with depression. This book has content from the website, such as The God of Cake and Dog (although I was a bit sad to see that Sneaky Hate Spiral wasn't included) and also includes new material. I got through this super quickly, as its essentially a comic, but it is hilarious. It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud at a book, but this did it. Seriously, if you haven't bought it yet, you should do.

It's been a bit of a busy week this week, so I barely managed to get this finished! It's another one of my free kindle classics. I don't know what it is about the Bronte sisters, but I just find their works a bit of a struggle. This book started out interesting, following the story of a young man who falls in love with the new tenant at Wildfell Hall. However, she's a bit of an odd one, and when he finally has enough of all her messing about, she caves and hands him a journal that explains her weirdness. This turned out to be the majority of the book, which is the tale of how she married a man who turned out to be a complete douche. It's a bit of a depression rollercoaster, but at least she has a bit more backbone than most victorian heroines.

This was a super quick read! I managed to get it done in one day. This is the latest offering from Kami Garcia, who co-wrote the Beautiful Creatures trilogy. Kennedy's life changes when she finds her mother dead in their house. She's rescued from a vengeance spirit by twin brothers, who take her to a warehouse where she dicovers that she is part of the Legion. The Legion is a group of people who are sworn to protect the world from a demon that was raised by their ancestors centuries ago. This is a great young adult supernatural novel, but I did find that the events seemed a bit rushed and glossed over in places. Still worth a read if you liked the Beautiful Creatures novels!
